When the inventor of a nickel and cadmium battery is murdered, Detective Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) suspects the killer might be an associate or rival. His investigation quickly leads him to James Pendrick (Peter Stebbings), the eccentric entrepreneur he's met on numerous other occasions. Pendrick has created an astonishing bullet-shaped vehicle that runs on electric power stored in the remarkable battery. Pendrick convinces Murdoch to climb into the tiny cockpit and race the vehicle down a country road. Murdoch is enthralled, and confounded that while many clues point to Pendrick as a suspect, what could incite him to kill an important associate? Meanwhile, Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) fears that his wife may be seeing another man. He enlists Constable Crabtree (Jonny Harris) to spy and report any untoward behaviour. Despite his initial trepidation, Crabtree complies and discovers a shocking secret. As Murdoch continues his murder investigation, he learns that Pendrick was aggressively soliciting investors through a public stock offering to expand production. His goal is to create a vehicle that will rival those of Henry Ford's Detroit Motor Company. To prove his mettle, and the superiority of his transportation invention, Pendrick stages a motor race. As Murdoch watches the spectacle, he gains further insights into this strange new world of modern innovation and...murder.
